Not only does a bed let you skip the night and avoid hostile mobs, but it also acts as a spawn point, making it crucial for survival. In this guide, we'll walk you through the simple steps to craft and use a bed in Minecraft.
To make a bed in Minecraft, you’ll need just two types of materials:
3 Wool Blocks – Wool can be obtained by shearing or killing sheep.
3 Wooden Planks – Gathered by chopping down trees and converting wood into planks.
Wool is a key ingredient in making your bed. Here’s how you can get it:
Find Sheep: Search for sheep in plains, savannas, or forest biomes.
Collect Wool: You can either:
Shear Sheep with shears (requires 2 iron ingots). This method gives more wool and doesn't harm the sheep.
Kill Sheep if you don’t have shears. Each sheep drops 1 wool block.
Pro Tip: You can use wool of any color, but all three wool blocks must be the same color to make a bed.
Next, you’ll need some wooden planks:
Chop Down Trees: Use your hand or an axe to chop down trees and collect wood logs.
Convert Wood Logs into Planks: Open your inventory and place the logs in the crafting grid to create wooden planks. You'll need 3 wooden planks for the bed.
If you don’t have a crafting table already, follow these quick steps:
Craft a Crafting Table: Open your inventory, place 4 wooden planks in the 2x2 crafting grid, and create a crafting table.
Open the Crafting Table: Place it down and right-click to access the 3x3 crafting grid.
With your materials ready, it's time to craft the bed:
In the crafting table, place:
3 Wool Blocks in the middle row.
3 Wooden Planks in the bottom row.
As long as the wool blocks are over the wooden planks, this recipe will work. Once the materials are arranged correctly, a bed will appear in the result box.
Now that your bed is crafted:
Drag the Bed into your inventory.
To place the bed in your world:
Select the Bed from your hotbar.
Right-click (or tap on mobile) on the ground to place the bed.
Note: Make sure the area is open and flat to place the bed properly.
Finally, once your bed is placed:
Right-click (or tap) on the bed at night to sleep.
This action will set your spawn point, so if you die, you’ll respawn at the bed.
