The Best Family Games of 2021

Check out our picks for the best of the best family games of 2021.

There may have been an abundance of games to debut in 2021, but not all of them were appropriate to play with the entire family. If you've got kids around who may not be ready for games like Halo Infinite or little brothers and sisters who want to get in on the fun, these are the titles you can expect to have some of the most fun with together. All of these games bring something fun and unique to the table, and they stole the show as the best family games of 2021. Of course, you can still play them even if it's just you -- they're packed with all-ages excitement, after all.

Mario Party Superstars

All the "stars" of Mario Party games past gathered in Mario Party Superstars for a megamix of some of the best boards and minigames the series has ever had to offer. It comes with five remade boards from throughout some of the biggest games in Mario Party history, with 100 minigames taken from entries in the past to make a fun new mix that younger and older players can enjoy together. The board game aspects are fun enough to play on their own, but they're made even more enjoyable with their minigames and the fact that you can actually play online with others -- something new for the series. If you've been jonesing for new Mario Party excitement, this is the game you need to snag as soon as possible to make every game night with the family (or just your friends) a great one.

WarioWare: Get It Together!

The WarioWare series has long been one of the most hilarious, irreverent collections of minigames -- microgames -- out there. Each bite-sized activity finds you working as the clock runs down to complete one of many zany tasks. The first entry for the Nintendo Switch, WarioWare: Get It Together!, has its own selection of games for you to test out as well as remixes of old favorites. There's so much here to do, and you can enjoy the microgames with different characters for the first time ever. That means you can invite friends to play the characters you need to pass each challenge, too. It's by far one of the most creative entries in the WarioWare series, and a good companion for Mario Party lovers, making this WarioWare entry a fantastic double feature for family game night.

New Pokémon Snap

Pokemon Snap is a beloved spinoff of the mainstream Pokemon series. Instead of catching the lovable Pocket Monsters, you simply take photos of them. Ever since the original game debuted on Nintendo 64 back in 1999, fans have been waiting patiently for another slice of what made the first adventure so much fun in the first place. With New Pokemon Snap, there's a slew of features that both borrow from and improve upon the original in a variety of ways. If you've been waiting for a reason to jump back into the wonderful world of Pokemon Snap, this is a great way to do it. It comes with plenty of new Pokemon to take pictures of, Pokemon that will change form as you approach and take photos, as well as daytime and nighttime courses. And if you take a photo you love, you can go and edit it later so you'll love it even more. This is especially fun to do with family, so if you're looking for something exciting for photography and Pokemon lovers at the same time, you'll find it here.
